Villages in central Malawi have no electricity and children must study by candle light or paraffin lamp. Solar lighting changes lives by making education accessible.
None of the villages or schools where the Gumbi fund works has electricity which means that children trying to pass exams or do homework or just read are at a great disadvantage. The fund has equipped all local schools and teachers with solar lamps and the family of any child going to secondary school is given a lamp. Parents can also rent solar lamps for about the same cost as what they would have paid for candles.
